While the commercial part of it is when the characters have to overcome many obstacles. For another commercial part of the story, it is the end because all the questions have been answered.
Another example of upmarket fiction is the “About a boy”. This talks about two different people meeting at a certain point in the story.
The plot that revolves around how their relationship will go as both men is another literary part of the story. It has a literary part on it because it is not categorized.
For the commercial part, it is when the language is used in order for the story to be more appealing to the audience. The “coming of age” story about it is also commercial.
There are many categories in which book have to be classified with. Even though upmarket is not a genre, it is still another task if an author to designate their books. Books that are already categorized into commercial, it does not totally mean that these books do not have a bit of literary on it. Same with a book categorized as literary, because there can still be parts of it that are commercial. The best thing with upmarket fiction is the excellent writing used on it and the commercial potential it entails.
